What makes a game logo readable

A logo is seen small far more often than large: in store lists, on a title screen behind menus, in a social post. Keep the title short, use a heavy font, and give the letters an outline or a drop shadow so they stand out on any background. Thin serifs and pale colors without an outline tend to disappear over busy art.

A gradient from light at the top to darker at the bottom makes letters feel lit from above, which is why many fantasy and arcade logos use gold, chrome or fire gradients. Use the emblem sparingly: a shield, circle or banner behind the title adds weight, but the title still has to be readable on its own.

Fonts come from your device, so the logo uses fonts every computer has (Georgia, Arial Black, Impact and similar) with close fallbacks. The PNG you download is fixed, so it looks the same everywhere.

Logo sizes for Steam and your game

Steam's library logo must be a PNG with a transparent background, either 1280 pixels wide and/or 720 pixels tall, at whatever aspect ratio suits your logo. It should contain only your game's name lettering and optionally a logomark, no other words, and it sits on top of your library hero art. The 1280 pixel wide download is made for this; leave the subtitle empty unless it is part of your game's name.

For a title screen in Godot, import the PNG and show it with a TextureRect or Sprite2D. Use the 1280 pixel file for 1080p or larger games and the 512 pixel file for small or pixel art games, so the engine does not have to shrink it a lot. For store capsules with your logo on top of key art, use the Steam capsule maker.

Frequently asked questions

Is this game logo maker free?
Design it myself is free, needs no account and runs entirely in your browser. Generate with AI needs a Ziva account, and each generation counts toward your Ziva plan's AI usage.
Why does the AI logo spell my title wrong?
Image models draw letters as shapes and often misspell words, especially long titles. Check every letter, try a shorter title, or use Design it myself, which always spells your title exactly.
What size should a game logo be?
Make it at least 1280 pixels wide with a transparent background. That matches Steam's library logo rule of 1280 pixels wide or 720 pixels tall, and you can scale it down for title screens, itch.io and social media.
How do I put the logo on my Godot title screen?
Copy the PNG into your project, add a TextureRect to your menu scene, drag the PNG into its Texture property and set Expand Mode and Stretch Mode so it keeps its aspect ratio. Because the background is transparent, your menu art shows around the letters.
Why does my logo look different on another computer?
The live preview uses fonts installed on the device you are using, and not every computer has the same fonts. Download the PNG once you like it; the image keeps exactly what you saw.
