Steam Capsule Sizes and Free Steam Capsule Maker

Upload your key art and a logo, or type your game title, and get every Steam store and library graphic at the exact size Steamworks asks for: header, small, main and vertical capsules, page background, library capsule, header, hero and logo. Frame each one, check the Library Hero safe area, and download each PNG with its Steam name and size. Everything runs in your browser; your art is never uploaded.

Step 1 of 3: Key art

Upload your key art: the background painting or render behind your logo, without text.

How to use it

  1. Press Upload key art and choose your background art, ideally at least 3840 pixels wide, then press Next.
  2. Press Upload a logo PNG and choose a transparent logo, or press Type the game title and pick a weight and color, then press Next.
  3. Pick each asset and drag the Focal point and Logo sliders until it looks right. On the Library Hero, use Show safe area to keep faces inside the box.
  4. Press Make capsules.
  5. Press Download PNG under each capsule and upload it to the matching slot in Steamworks.

Steam store capsule sizes

Header Capsule: 920 x 430 pixels, required. It sits at the top of your store page, in Recommended For You and in Big Picture, and Steam makes smaller versions from it. Use your key art and logo, keep the logo easy to read, and add no text beyond the game title.

Small Capsule: 462 x 174 pixels, required. It appears in search results, top sellers and new releases, and Steam shrinks it to 184 x 69 and 120 x 45. At that size only the logo reads, so make the logo nearly fill the capsule. Its art does not have to match your other capsules.

Main Capsule: 1232 x 706 pixels, required. This is the front page carousel image. Same rules as the header: key art, a legible logo, no other text.

Vertical Capsule: 748 x 896 pixels, required. It can appear at the top of the front page during seasonal sales and on sale pages. Same rules as the header.

Page Background: 1438 x 810 pixels, optional. It sits behind your store page and Steam applies its own template over it, so keep it ambient and leave the logo off. If you skip it, Steam builds one from your last screenshot.

Screenshots are separate: at least 5, 1920 x 1080 or larger at 16:9, showing only gameplay.

Steam library asset sizes

Library Capsule: 600 x 900 pixels. The portrait cover in the library grid and collections; Steam generates a 300 x 450 copy. It must include your game logo and no other text.

Library Header: 920 x 430 pixels. Used in Recent Games and other library rows. If you leave it empty, Steam uses your store Header Capsule.

Library Hero: 3840 x 1240 pixels, with a 1920 x 620 copy generated for you. It is the banner at the top of your game's library page and cannot include any text or logo. Fill the whole image with art, but keep faces and anything important inside the centered 860 x 380 safe area, which stays visible however the Steam window is resized.

Library Logo: a PNG with a transparent background, 1280 pixels wide and/or 720 pixels tall at your logo's own aspect ratio. Only the logotype (and an optional logomark) belongs in it. Steam draws it over the hero, and you pick bottom left, top center, center or bottom center in the Steamworks preview tool.

What Steam allows on capsule art

Since September 1, 2022, base capsules may only show game artwork, the game name and an official subtitle. Steam's graphical asset rules ban review scores of any kind, award names or logos, discount copy such as On Sale Now, calls to action such as Wishlist now, art promoting another product, and any other text.

Text about a new update or a seasonal event goes in Artwork Overrides instead, which expire after at most a month, must be localized into your game's languages, and may only describe content that is out now. Every capsule needs a readable logo or name, accurate dimensions and PG-13 artwork; games that break the rules can lose store visibility and be left out of Steam sales and events.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Steam capsule image?
Steam uses several capsules. The Header Capsule is 920 x 430, the Small Capsule 462 x 174, the Main Capsule 1232 x 706 and the Vertical Capsule 748 x 896. In the library, the Library Capsule is 600 x 900, the Library Header 920 x 430 and the Library Hero 3840 x 1240.
Can I put text on my Steam capsule?
Only the game name and an official subtitle. Taglines, review quotes, awards, sale messages and calls to action like Wishlist now are not allowed on base capsules, and the Library Hero cannot contain any text at all.
What is the Steam Library Hero safe area?
It is the centered 860 x 380 area of the 3840 x 1240 hero that stays uncropped when the Steam client is resized. The art should fill the whole hero, but faces and key content belong inside the safe area. Turn on Show safe area in this tool to see it.
What size should the Steam library logo be?
Export a transparent PNG that is 1280 pixels wide, 720 pixels tall, or both, keeping your logo's own aspect ratio. Wide logos end up 1280 wide and tall logos 720 tall; this tool picks the right one for you.
Is my key art uploaded anywhere?
No. The capsule maker crops and draws everything with your browser's canvas, and the PNG files are created on your computer.
