itch.io Page Description Writer: Game Page Template
Enter your game's facts, what makes it fun and the tone you want, and get a full itch.io page description: an opening hook, About, Features, Controls, Credits and Links sections, plus a one-line short description for itch.io listings. Preview it, copy it into itch.io's editor or download it as markdown. Writing the page needs a free Ziva account.
How to use it
- Enter the Game title and, if you like, the Genre, Platforms, Price and Controls, then press Next.
- Describe What makes it fun, and optionally list Features and Credits one per line, then press Next.
- Pick a Tone and a Length. Sign in to Ziva if asked, then press Write my page.
- Check the preview, then press Copy to paste it into itch.io, or Download .md for a markdown file. Press Generate another for a new version.
- Replace every [placeholder] in square brackets, such as your links, with your own details before you publish.
How to edit your itch.io page description
On itch.io, the description is edited in your project's Edit game form. itch.io's creator docs say the editor offers formatting such as bold, italic, underline, lists and links, and recommend the Header 2 style for section titles, which is why this tool writes each section under its own heading.
Press Copy and paste into the Description field. Copy puts both formatted text and markdown on your clipboard; if the headings do not come through as titles when you paste, select each one and apply Header 2, and use the list button for the features. The short description goes in its own field: itch.io uses the title, short description and cover image in game listings all over the site.
New pages are private by default, so you can paste, preview and fix the text before you set the page's visibility to Public.
What else the page needs
Cover image: itch.io asks for a 315:250 aspect ratio, with 315x250 as the minimum and a larger image at the same ratio, such as 630x500, recommended. Screenshots: itch.io recommends uploading 3 to 5. Pick a Genre and add up to 10 tags so the project lands in the right categories.
You can embed images in the description to show features next to the text that describes them, and YouTube, Vimeo and SketchFab links are supported for video. Make sure any video you embed is public.
For the look of the page, press Edit Theme at the top of your project page. You can set the background, text, link and button colors, pick fonts, and upload a banner image that replaces the title above the description. The screenshot layout can show screenshots and your trailer in a right-hand column, or hide them.
Write a page people keep reading
Put the hook first: the genre, the one thing that is different about your game and what the player does, in two or three sentences, so a visitor who reads only the opening still knows what the game is.
Keep features to one line each and make them concrete, such as 12 hand-drawn rooftops or no fail states, rather than words any game could use. List the controls so players can start without guessing. For a Steam page, write the short description separately with the Steam short description writer.
