Name spells so players can read them mid-fight

A spell name is a label the player reads in a fraction of a second. The most readable pattern is element word plus shape word: Searing Lance, Glacial Ward, Crackling Chain. The element tells the player what it does to enemies; the shape tells them how it reaches them.

Let the words grow with power. Cantrips use small words like Spark, Flick and Dart, standard spells use Bolt and Lance, major spells use Nova and Tempest, and ultimates get words like Cataclysm and Requiem. Players learn the scale without reading a single number.

Turn the list into spell data

Download as JSON gives one object per spell with name, effect, element and tier fields. Add the numbers your game needs, such as mana cost, cooldown and damage, and you have a spell table.

In Godot you can load the JSON file with JSON.parse_string(FileAccess.get_file_as_string(path)), or make a custom Resource script with class_name Spell, extends Resource and @export variables for each field, then save one .tres file per spell so you can edit them in the Inspector.

Frequently asked questions

How do I name a spell?
Combine a word for the element with a word for the shape of the spell, such as Frozen Spear or Lance of Embers. Pick bigger words for stronger spells so the names show the power scale.
What do the tiers change?
The tier changes the shape words in the name and the reach of the effect, from one target for a cantrip to everything on the battlefield for an ultimate.
Is the spell name generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no account and no AI calls.
Can I use these spells in my game?
Yes. The names and effects are generated from word lists written for this tool and are yours to use.
