What a boss name should tell the player

The Name, the Title form does two jobs. The name gives the boss a personality, and the title tells the player what to expect: the Undying Bone King will get back up, the Easily Distracted War Engine probably has a weakness you can exploit. Put the full form on the boss's health bar so players can say it when they talk about the fight.

Keep the name short enough to fit the health bar at your game's resolution. One or two syllables for the name and two or three words for the title is usually the limit before the text has to shrink.

From arena hint to a playable fight

Each result comes with an arena and one mechanic, for example a factory floor with moving conveyor belts, where shooting the exposed cooling vents stuns the boss. That is enough for a first version: build the arena, give the boss two attacks and that one mechanic, and add a second phase at half health.

In Godot, a ProgressBar node at the top of a CanvasLayer is the quickest boss health bar. Turn off its show_percentage property and put a Label above it with the boss's name and title.

Frequently asked questions

How do I name a boss?
Give it a short, sayable name and a title that hints at how it fights, in the form Name, the Title. Match the sounds to the theme: harsh sounds for demons and beasts, metallic ones for machines.
What does the Funny style do?
It swaps the dramatic title words for comic ones, like the Slightly Damp Lich, and adds silly mechanics, such as a boss that stops to monologue when you hit it three times in a row.
Can I export the bosses for my game?
Yes. Download as JSON gives one object per boss with name, arena, theme and style fields, and Download list gives a plain text file.
Is the boss name generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no account and no AI calls.
