Lore Generator: Fantasy and Sci-Fi World Lore, No AI
Pick a world type, a focus and a tone, name your world or let the generator name it, and get a creation myth, three factions with goals and a conflict, a five-event timeline, and three legends you can turn into quests. It is built from hand-written templates, not AI, and runs entirely in your browser.
How to use it
- Choose a world type such as High fantasy, Dark fantasy or Sci-fi, and press Next.
- Choose what the history is built around, such as A lost empire or A plague, pick a tone, and press Next.
- Type a world name or leave it empty, and press Generate lore.
- Press Reroll section on any part you want to change; the rest stays the same.
- Press Copy all or Download lore.md to keep the lore.
How the lore is generated
Every sentence comes from hand-written templates and name lists for each world type, so a sci-fi world gets colonies, precursor machines and fleets while a dark fantasy world gets bargains, plagues and inquisitions. No AI model writes the text, so it is free, instant and keeps working once the page has loaded.
Each world first gets a fixed cast: a god or founding power, an old empire, a hero, a place, an artifact, a war, a plague and a prophecy. Every section draws on the same cast, so the creation myth, the timeline and the legends refer to the same people and places. Rerolling one section keeps the cast and the other sections unchanged.
Turning lore into gameplay
Give each faction an NPC who wants something from the player that matches the faction's goal. When two factions want opposite things, the player's choice between them is a quest with consequences, and the conflict line tells you which choice matters.
Treat every legend or rumor as a quest hook: the player hears it from an NPC, goes to the place it names, and finds out whether it is true. Leaving one rumor false is a cheap way to make the world feel larger than the map.
Show lore instead of front-loading it. Put the creation myth on a temple wall, a timeline event on a gravestone or a log entry, and let players piece the history together. Keep the downloaded lore.md in your project so dialogue and item descriptions stay consistent.
