AI slop games: People make slop, and AI is one enabler
Okay, there’s a lot of discussion about whether AI makes slop games, and I think that’s true, but it’s not the full story. I think that people make slop games, and AI is one enabler of that. But here’s the thing.
What AI can do is enable people to create things faster. I would argue that this can mean more prototyping. So when people do release games, they can be more unique and have more fun mechanics.
Faster prototyping and polished games
But I think the reason why people associate AI with slop instead of uniqueness and fun mechanics is because AI enables a lot more games to be created, right?
You might think that, oh, I can make a more polished game or my art can shine through. But the reality is, people who use AI also can make polished games and have art shine through, right? It’s just you see examples where that’s not the case and you associate it with AI.
AI games aren’t inherently slop
You know, if I’m passionate about a game, if I’m passionate about my work, it’s gonna look good. It’s gonna play well. And AI helps me do that. If I’m not passionate and I don’t really care, AI will help me get over the finish line, and that’s how you see AI slop.
But I strongly disagree that AI games are inherently equivalent to slop.
